That things happen for a reason sometimes. Sometimes the economy has to slow, sometimes the Ramadan has to be felt by a greater majority of the populace.

There is a narration from the play The Fantastiks spoken by a somewhat elusive character known as "El Gallo" - he begines "The Curious Paradox which no one can explain ..."

Stepping back to consider global and historic events of the past, the economic, philanthropic, and ecumenical trends of the future ... one can only pause in awe that Allah knows best.

Consider if you will these past years as a testing ground, a ground of preparation for the great things we as a human race can do for ourselves and for posterity. The opportunities presenting themselves for "redemption" and a chance to start getting it right for all the right reasons.

When I first heard Barack Obama open his mouth and begin to speak, at the end of it, I knew he was going to be the next president of the United States.

And we have to help him, as "We the People" we have to remember the opening words of the Declaration of Independence that "When in the course of human events ..." we have to remember Thomas Jefferson's 1801 Inaugural Address when he spoke:

"...Let us, then, fellow-citizens, unite with one heart and one mind. Let us restore to social intercourse that harmony and affection without which liberty and even life itself are but dreary things. And let us reflect that, having banished from our land that religious intolerance under which mankind so long bled and suffered, we have yet gained little if we countenance a political intolerance as despotic, as wicked, and capable of as bitter and bloody persecutions..."

Let us also reflect that we choose to banish from our land that racial intolerance, class intolerance, social intolerance, that we want for each other the same good that we want for ourselves.

Yes, it's a new day in the United States of America. And as I cast my ballot, my vote yesterday for Barack Obama, I was heartened in the resolve of the American people and remembered my way back great-grandfather who lost so much because he believed in the exercise in democracy and signed a document in Philadelphia on July 4, 1776.

God Willing ... we rise from the ashes into which we've cast ourselves through complaicency. We rise from "business as usual" and grasp the hand-hold that never puts us down.

We cannot sit still. We cannot not engage in the recreation of America. We must help her up, reunite her, bring her in so that she's no longer like the painting "The Derelicta" ...

I am so very proud of my country. And am beginning to see us, having awakened, to finally emerge, and walk.

"...The day will come when the child huddled and frightened
In the street In the field,
In the factory, in us all

Will stand.

The spark that was once lost
Will be found again.
It will become a flame
And the flame will become a golden fire, that burns with strength and compassion, with peace and resolve.

The once shattered hopes will be molded into a new way of life,
A new direction,
Through a new awakening."

We all move forward - togetherAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3569425364802315563.post-21574518970472538602008-11-05T08:53:00.000+03:002008-11-05T08:53:00.000+03:00The people have spoken. Neo-Nazis wanted to kill Obama and a bunch of High School kids. Thank God they were caught. I live in Key Largo, FL. I am a Catholic and a Cuban. I voted for Obama. To those that commented that all Hispanics are voting for McCain, please do not generalize. This is the same thing that is happening with Obama, gross generalizations and racial fear.

I am glad you are voting for Obama Susie. It is time for change, not fear. There are a lot of misinformation and uninformed voters out there. One more day and we will know. Take good care and I am glad you are not allowing anymore anonymous posts. And that they should just leave the country. They seem to forget that is what actually makes us American.
The idea that you can speak out against the government, say what you think is wrong with it, what you want to see changed, what you are unhappy with is a right given to us by our founding fathers and something we should not only embrace but it's something we don't do enough of.
As Americans we have the right to dissolve our government at any time we choose. If we just sit there saying "Oh yeah, they're doing great. Just leave them alone you commie bastard." and turn a blind eye we are anything but American.
We have a president that has the lowest approval rating ever. It's not because liberals want to run riot. What utter bullshit.
I don't think Obama will be perfect. Personally I think anyone who makes it this far politically in a nation of our size isn't going to be totally honest and trustworthy. But McCain sided to long with Bush for my liking. I am convinced with him in office we will have another four yearsof failure.
Eight years ago I would have voted for McCain. In that time a bitterness has grown in him and not to mention the idea of a puppy-killing beauty queen being a stroke away from the Oval Office doesn't set well with me.
For those out there though who call me Un-American for pointing out the flaws in my leaders or find me Un-American for speaking out against the government, while exercising my CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS I will just remind you what Ben Franklin said:
"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety"

If we give up our liberty to speak out against those who are in government then we do not deserve to be American anymore.

And for those on here who will just label me a "liberal" or a "democrat" or whatever category they want to try to pigeon-hole me into I will also quote Oscar Levant, who so succinctly told the difference between our two parties:
"The only difference between the Democrats and the Republicans is that the Democrats allow the poor to be corrupt, too."
Amen.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3569425364802315563.post-4028572992216220802008-10-26T04:52:00.000+03:002008-10-26T04:52:00.000+03:00Obama is not the man to be in the White House. I have read all the responces and I feel most for the conflicted 'Mama Kalila'. My mother is exactly the same way and I am proud to have discussed with her her apprehensions.

My mother voted for Obama in the primaries and I cried. I cried because Barack represents to me the beginning of a proud new american century.

I have seen this country drug through the gutter these past 8 years. There area a few reasons I am not voting Republican:
-Katrina
-Bin laden
-Iraq ("Mission Accomplished")
-Afghanistan
-the Economy (led astray by a failed economic policy of Republican laissez-faire policies)
-Taxes (trickle down economics is as failed an economic policy as communism, or should i feel sorry for someone who makes more than 250,000$ a year?)
-Rendition
-Abu Gharib
-The Geneva Conventions
-The Federal Torture Act
-Habius Corpus
-Warrentless wiretaps
-"The executive branch has unlimited power in wartime" interpretation of the VP office.
-Guantanamo
-$300 billion surplus to a consistent $800 billion deficit.
-"Pre-emption"
-WMD's
-Yellow Cake
-Enron
-De-Bath'ification
-disbanding the Iraqi army
-The Worlds Peacekeeper to the Worlds bully.
-No-bid contracts
-Homophobia
-Civil Rights
-Kyoto Treaty
-Cronyism
-$3.00 Gas prices
-No child left behind
-Palin, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Bremmer, Katherine Harris, Scooter Libby

Now it would be unfair to think that McCain would not continue these policies. The most important example: was against the bush tax-cuts (when he was an ACTUAL maverick), now he wants to make them permanent.

Barack Obama represents Hope and actual Change. I am proud of my country, so proud that I know we can survive F-tards like G.W.
-Healthcare
-a moderate, Clinton style tax system.
-Our world standing
-a reasonable end to Iraq
-a fundimental change in Energy policy
-EDUCATION
-The ECONOMY (the 90's were no fluke of timing and neither were the 2000's= they are results of good policy and bad policy)

and finally in a selfish sense... there will be children that will grow up with a black president... racism is in this country could become as irrelevant as cannibalism.

It starts with us and starts with our vote.
